McCabe's husband is Andrew McCabe, the deputy director of the FBI who was responsible for helping lead the investigation into Clinton's email practices as secretary of state.

According to McAuliffe's spokesman, the governor only met with the McCabes once - on March 7, 2015 - to urge Dr. Jill McCabe run. And the Journal reported that Andrew McCabe didn't help oversee the investigation of Clinton's emails until after his wife had already lost the election.

CoA Institute also filed a Freedom of Information (FOIA) request for communications about McCabe's role in the investigations and the role McAuliffe's political donations may have played in those probes. The Virginia Democratic Party, which the governor has significant influence over, gave McCabe $207,788. Richard Black, who had won his previous race by 14 points.

McCabe failed to unseat Black despite having a wide fundraising advantage, and Democrats did not retake control of the closely divided Senate.

McAuliffe, a long-time friend and political ally of the Clinton family, said the report has no basis and he supported McCabe "because she was the best candidate to be a state senator, plain and simple".

"Without the dishonesty and deceit of the media, Hillary Clinton would be nothing", he said, adding: "The media isn't just against me, they're against all of you".

In January, several months after his wife's loss, Andrew McCabe was named deputy director of the FBI, the bureau's second in command.

Kaepernick shows flashes, such as his impressive 17-yard TD throw to Shaun Draughn, or his 84 yards on nine carries. The 49ers gave up seven plays of 20 yards or more Sunday, including runs of 44 and 45 yards.

"Long before anything... So let's not live in a time capsule".

But there's no evidence that Clinton had anything to do with the contributions, or that she even knew about them, as Trump claimed.

Noting that Democrat McAuliffe is close to the Clintons, Trump said any donation from McAuliffe amounts to a donation from the Democratic presidential candidate.

McCabe was a key manager of the Federal Bureau of Investigation leadership team overseeing the probe of Clinton's use of a "home-brew" private email system and server based in her NY home to conduct the official diplomatic business of the U.S. He was thus in a position to influence the FBI's probe into whether McAuliffe's campaign accepted illegal campaign donations. While Republican candidate Donald Trump is being haunted by accusations of sexual assault on multiple women, Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton's email scandal seems to be catching-up with her as well.

McAuliffe and other state figures reportedly recruited Dr. McCabe to run in the first place, but a spokesman pushed back on any suggestion of impropriety. By the end of July 2015, McCabe received a promotion, making him FBI Director James Comey's second-in-command.

After a press conference on jobs in Richmond on Monday, McAuliffe told NBC12 that "I think we're in silly season now". Despite the governor's support, McCabe was defeated in the November election. "He has an equally demanding job". Mulrine called McCabe a "very good person" but said she was unknown to many in the Loudoun-centered Senate district. At the time, her husband worked in the FBI's Washington field office.
