Verizon To Bring 5G Tests to 11 Cities this Year

RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. -(BUSINESS WIRE)-Samsung Electronics America, Inc.and Verizon today announced they have completed deployment of 5G systems in five us cities in preparation to begin customer trials of 5G technology. It confirmed upcoming 5G test markets in Ann Arbor, Atlanta, Barnardsville (NJ), Brockton (MA), Dallas, Denver, Houston, Miami, Sacramento, Seattle and Washington DC. "These end-to-end solutions are a key step for preparing Verizon's network for commercial deployment with different 5G scenarios and use cases".

Verizon's 5G testing will be offered in "several hundred cell sites that cover several thousand customer locations".

Verizon's announcement comes shortly after AT&T described its plans for "5G evolution" testing in Austin and Indianapolis.

The companies that Verizon is working with on this trial are members of Verizon's 5G Technology Forum (5GTF). It expects 5G technology to deliver speeds between 10 and 100 times faster than today's average 4G LTE connectivity. In those trials, also for select customers, AT&T will stream DirecTV service to antennas on users' homes.

5G enable devices are now being manufactured according to the release along with chipsets and infrastructure products.

In partnership with Samsung, Big Red is almost ready to pilot test its new gigabit-class wireless service in 11 cities. That's faster than the vast majority of people's home broadband network, and more than fast enough to do anything you could dream of on a cellphone.

The fixed wireless trials will initially provide wireless broadband and VoIP services to customers.

Along with Verizon, both AT&T and Google Fiber have also been experimenting with fixed wireless and 5G technologies to advance their networks.
