The name of the women is Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty, who previously weighed around 500 kilos, had not left her house in Egypt in over two decades until arriving for Mumbai. "The 48 hours after surgery were crucial and we have crossed that period without any complications."Ms. Ahmed was lifted by crane and shifted from her special ward to Saifee Hospital's main building".

According to BBC News, 36-year-old Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty is believed to be the world's heaviest woman, tipping the scales at 1,100 pounds. She had flown to Mumbai in a specially modified Airbus last month for treatment.

Doctors plan to make Eman lose at least 100 more kilos (200 kg in total) over the next 6 months and are surprised at the rapid rate with which the patient is shedding pounds. But Eman lost 100 kgs in 25 days after which a sleeve bariatric surgery was performed.

Despite her weight loss, the Egyptian would still be the biggest woman in the world.

Abd El Aty, who is from the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria, was flown to India's commercial capital in a specially modified Airbus on Saturday, Feb. 11 for treatment.

However, Dr Lakdawala told the BBC in December that he believed Ms Abd El Aty did not have elephantiasis but suffered from obesity-related lymphoedema which causes enormous swelling of the legs.

Abd El Aty had a long wait as no airlines were willing to fly her due to her health complications.

Her request for an Indian visa was initially denied, but she was granted passage after tweeting a plea for help directly to India's foreign minister, who intervened. "We had to remove her gallbladder as well, as she had 15 stones", he said.
