Facebook wants to augment your reality

The platform, which is in beta, is now open to software developers so they can build on what Facebook has started.

The product is part of Facebook's push to give its products more physicality. He sees a future in which most stories are told and shared using videos and photos rather than text and described Facebook's camera-related offerings as "the first mainstream augmented reality platform".

So now we know what Facebook bought virtual reality pioneer Oculus for - VR chatrooms, apparently.

Franklin announced the platform at Facebook's annual developer conference, F8, on Tuesday. That custom frame can then be used in the smartphone cameras of your Facebook friends, and it will even show the name of that frame creator. People can watch Facebook content with friends in VR, including 360 videos, draw in the air with a virtual marker, and phone a friend in the real world with Messenger video calling to bring more people into the VR space. This could prove to be one of the biggest steps forward for Facebook.

Spaces will initially only be available on Oculus Rift headsets, however it will later expand to other VR platforms. "As silly as these effects might seem, they're actually really important and meaningful because they allow us to share what's important to us on a daily basis", Zuckerberg said.

General election 2017: PM says Tories are 'party of lower taxes'
The Lib Dems accused the Tories of "getting their betrayal in early" while Labour said they were abandoning the elderly.

The addition of new QR codes to the Messenger makes it possible to learn more about events in the real world by scanning them with your phone. Augmented reality overlays computer-generated images over the real world. However, AR is just as viable a technology, yet should cost a lot less to develop and doesn't require any expensive purchases for consumers.

Hang out with your friends in a fun, interactive virtual environment as if you were in the same room, no matter where you are.

This isn't the only major change coming to Facebook.

"We have only just scratched the surface of social virtual reality technology", she said. It worth mentioning that you can make use of this Facebook Spaces photos to post on your real worth feed.

Of course some of Facebook's new features are similar to (some say ripoff) things you have in Instagram and Snapchat.
