IS Official Linked to Istanbul Nightclub Attack Killed in Syria, US Says

Central Command spokesman, Col. John Thomas, said Uzbeki was killed in a ground operation April 6 near Mayadan, in eastern Syria.

Al Mayadin is southeast of Dayr Az Zawr in the Euphrates River Valley. Thomas said Uzbeki has been "clearly linked" to the plot and was a close associate of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. "I think that's all we're willing to say about that", Thomas said, declining further comment. "He facilitated the high-profile attack in Istanbul nightclub on New Year's Eve".

Masharipov fired on hundreds of revelers at the trendy Reina nightclub killing 39 people and injuring dozens of others before he fled the scene.

Mr Thomas was quoted by ABC as saying that the U.S. has "a pretty good record of finding these folks and killing them".
