Pinwheel display honors victims of child abuse

April is Child Abuse Prevention month and serves as a reminder that there are things we all can do to protect and enrich the lives of our children. Their results identify six protective factors and ways to help build healthy children and strong families in our communities. Prevent Child Abuse Indiana's website, www.pcain.org, offers straightforward lists of both physical and behavioral indicators of each category of maltreatment.

The agency implores all community members to report suspected child abuse, however, and hosted its annual child abuse prevention breakfast Monday.

This disturbing increase has been matched in Missoula, where the number of child abuse and neglect cases filed with the county attorney's office has rocketed from an average of 51 cases each year as recently as 2011, to 173 in 2015 and 191 last year.
