Tillerson: Russia 'failure allowed Syria chemical attack'

The Senate's No. 2 Republican, John Cornyn of Texas, says Trump's move sends a strong message to rogue nations, and agrees that the USA needs a broader strategy.

He suggested the missile strike was only a good start because it didn't stop the Syrians from using the airbase that was the target of us cruise missiles just hours after the attack.

"Well, I think what the president did was an excellent first step, and it was a reversal of the last eight years", McCain said.

"Rest assured that we will liberate Syria from all kinds of occupying forces, it does not matter from where they came to the occupied part of Syria", the statement warned.

Haley told CNN in an interview that Trump and his administration were shown classified information proving that Syrian President Bashar Assad had been involved in the alleged chemical attack against civilians in Syria's Idlib.

When asked about Washington's anti-Russia sanctions, the US Secretary of State said "there is no reason to be lifting sanctions".

Members of Trump's administration have hinted that the U.S.is not done intervening in Syria.

. Still, Haley said the USA didn't see a peaceful future for Syria with Assad in power.

Meanwhile, Russia and Iran, President Assad's key military backers, are threatening retaliation if there are any further American air strikes and the task of breaking the present deadlocks over Syria remains enormous.

McMaster, Tillerson said Moscow had "failed" to live up to its obligations under a 2013 agreement to strip Syria of its chemical weapons stockpiles.

"The aggression against Syria oversteps all red lines", said a statement published by Al-Watan, a newspaper close to Assad's government.
