Trump to attend three Asian summits in November - Pence

Duterte had a hard relationship with Trump's predecessor, Barack Obama, as the former U.S. president criticized a series of killings tied to the Philippines leader's Drug War, prompting Duterte to tell Obama to "go to hell", calling him a "son of a whore", - for which he later apologized - and threatening that he might "break up with America".

He said other country leaders from dialogue partners like Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, and South Korea are also expected to attend.

Mr. Paynor in his briefing said ASEAN leaders have requested for bilateral talks with Mr. Duterte during the meetings in Manila next week, but because of his "tight" schedule, Mr. Duterte can only accommodate "informal" talks.

One of the ASEAN meetings, the East Asia Summit, is scheduled for November 13-14, while the APEC summit is set for November 11-12.

"Even if Trump were to attend the summits, he could do more harm than good", Mr. Connelly wrote on Lowy Institute's Web site last March. "At least verbally, he said he is coming", said Paynor.

"Multilateral meetings of this sort, we usually expect 100% attendance".

Does Trump keep his promises? Poll finds big shift in opinion
The poll, which was conducted on April 5-9, shows that only 45 per cent of Americans believe that Trump "keeps his promises". Political friends and foes alike have complained that Trump is not carrying out the promises he made on the campaign trail.

The Philippine hosting of ASEAN in 2017 is a total number 137 meetings - two summits, 17 ministerial meetings, 42 senior officials meetings, and 76 technical working group meetings.

"On 29th April which is the actual summit, we will have all 10 [ASEAN] leaders meeting up at the PICC and we'll have a retreat at the Coconut Palace", he added.

But Mr. Bolivar on Wednesday said: "We can not announce that yet".

Paynor also said the ASEAN Summit will coincide with the bilateral visits of His Majesty Sultan Bolkiah of Brunei on the 27th, and Indonesian President Joko Widodo on the 28th. "With Brunei, similar issues that I feel will just be reiterated and perhaps further elucidated".

Meanwhile, Widodo is also set to attend the launch of the Davao-General Santos-Bitung RO-RO (Roll On, Roll Out) route in the morning April 30.

The VP said Trump hopes to work with ASEAN on security issues, trade and freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, Reuters reported.
