Kelly Clarkson joining 'The Voice' as coach for 14th season

Clarkson and Hudson join "The Voice" days before NBC is set to present its upcoming slate to advertisers in NY as part of the annual Upfronts.

Im so excited to join The Voice at NBC, Clarkson said, according to Variety. "We've been going back and forth with them for years on joining their team and the timing hasn't been right until now". She added that she has always loved working with the show and now she can't wait to help and support the contestants.

"Channing Dungey, President of ABC Entertainment, released a statement about the show's return, which said: "'American Idol' is a pop culture staple that left the air too soon.

Clarkson will join the show's two constants in coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. However, these rumors were debunked when NBC announced that Kelly Clarkson will be officially joining "The Voice". A fourth judge will be named at a later date.

Kelly will join longtime coaches Blake and Adam Levine for season 14 of The Voice when it premieres in the USA next year. However, it seems that "The Voice" was able to approach Clarkson first because the reboot on ABC has only been finalized earlier this week.

"Last time I watched [Idol], it was not the same show, just the same name". CNN reported that Hudson, like Clarkson, are former competitors on American Idol.

Hudson will appear alongside Miley Cyrus, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton on the singing competition series. She is now working on her seventh album, an R&B-influenced project that will be her first for Atlantic Records. Instead, she's now landed at "The Voice" for season 14. which, by the way, will be running at the same time Idol returns.

Clarkson's stint on "The Voice" will start airing in spring 2018. American Idol has not yet announced who will serve as the host and judges of the reboot. Viewers can catch season 13 of The Voice on NBC at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Variety reached out to "Idol" creator Simon Fuller, who is not now involved in the new iteration on ABC, for his take.
