A New York City subway train derailed near a station in Harlem, frightening passengers and resulting in a power outage as people were evacuated from trains.

Passengers shared photos and messages that described a chaotic moment when an A train crashed into a wall at 125th Street in Manhattan.

The MTA added that three disabled trains had been evacuated and passengers were taken safely above ground.

Passengers on one train tell WABC that it felt like it jumped off the tracks at around 125th Street.

New York City Fire Department Commissioner Daniel Nigro gave reporters details on the injuries at the scene.

"I walked the tracks, very scary, the firemen helped me though", another rider said.

At least seven people are hurt after a subway derailed Tuesday in New York City, officials reported. But when he said that there was smoke on the tracks, that's when we became more concerned. The MTA said service is suspended on the A, B, C and D trains until the investigation is completed.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) confirmed that a train derailed and seven people suffered from non-life-threatening injuries.

"This, to the best of my knowledge, does not look like a failure on the part of equipment, does not look like a failure on the part of the track itself", Lhota said. The authority has confirmed damage to tracks, switches and the adjacent tunnel wall, all of which takes time to fix.

'The brakes went into emergency and we need to determine why'.

"We're seeing the effects of an outdated transit system", State Sen.

Commuter railroads also have had problems. And with shuttle bus service already underway, chances aren't looking good for a smooth ride home.
