According to a report from 247Sports, current Ohio State head coach Thad Matta will be announcing his retirement from Ohio State this afternoon following the 2017-'18 season.

Matta, a Hoopeston native, coached Ohio State for 13 seasons and leaves as the program's all-time leader in wins (337) and games coached (460) in Ohio State history. Smith said the Buckeyes will conduct a national search for their next coach.?He also said Ohio State will honor the remaining three years on Matta's contract.

But the down season for the Buckeyes was not cited among the major deciding factors into Matta's exit at OSU by Smith. "But honestly my whole focus right now is trying to get healthy". As for coaching again, he said: "Never say never". The back pain the surgery was supposed to correct hasn't dissipated, either; he still needs help doing things as simple as putting on his shoes.
