Khaplang was its chairman and now that he is dead, the military chief of United Liberation Front of Assam, Paresh Baruah, is a frontrunner for the post but the NSCN-K is unlikely to give way. "The NSCN-K will also suffer and it will be hard for them to achieve their goal now without Khaplang", he said.

However, the 77-year-old Naga insurgent leader died before things could be taken forward to their logical conclusion.

Pointing out that Khaplang was the pillar of the insurgency thriving from Myanmar, security sources said that Khaplang has created a command area on both side the global border. "My sons and daughters, please continue to hold on the torch of our freedom until we reach the promised land", Khaplang said in his will. He leaves behind four children, including a daughter.

"The Nagaland government has been sending delegations to meet the NSCN-K leadership in Myanmar in recent times to convince the group to re-enter into the peace process with the Indian government to find an early solution to the Naga political problem", said Liezietsu.

Dimapur, June 10 (MExN): Several nationalist political groups today paid rich tributes to the NSCN (K) Chairman SS Khaplang who passed away in Taka on June 9.

A day after the passing of SS Khaplang, the commander-in-chief of the NSCN Khaplang faction, Thuingaleng Muivah, the General Secretary of the NSCN Isak-Muivah faction has released a condolence message "forgiving SS Khaplang for the political mistakes and crimes he had committed".

At the event, Apple also introduced the new Files app, a file management tool that works across different apps. The iPhone screen will also be locked to prevent drivers from using many of their apps while driving.

While Khaplang joined the Angami Zapu Phizo's Naga Nationalist Council (NNC) in 1968, Muivah had joined it in 1964.

The two Naga rebel leaders - Khaplang and Muivah along with Isak Chishi Swu - formed the National Socialist Council of Nagaland in 1980.

In 2015, the NDA government banned the outfit for five years for its alleged involvement in a series of attacks on security forces, including an army convoy on June 4 in Manipur's Chandel district killing 18 army men.

Rijiju said this on Saturaday while interacting with the newsmen here on the sidelines of a programme and added that the Government of India had banned the NSCN (K) in 2016 by a special notification after the organisation abrogated from the undergoing ceasefire agreement.

"We will always treasure and cherish his commitment to do what the upcoming Naga generation wants as the Naga national movement is for the well-being of future Naga generations who should live in dignity and peace", Krome said in his condolence message.
