Southwest confirmed that the flight had been diverted after flight attendants informed the captain that there could be a "potential threat". Photo courtesy of Cleveland ISD Police Department.

A disruptive passenger was dragged off a Southwest Airlines flight after she tried to open the emergency exit (pictured, left and right).

"All I [had] seen was she was reaching for the door, my children were there, other passengers, families - she was not getting the door open".

Kirsty Gillentine wrote that an off-duty police officer had stopped an "erratic passenger from allegedly trying to open emergency exit".

Adriana Bain, another passenger, said she saw a "scuffle" in the back of the plane.

Henrietta Mokwuah said she witnessed a woman try to open an emergency exit while they flew thousands of feet in the air.

KPRC spoke to an off-duty Cleveland, Texas school police officer on the flight who jumped up and pulled the woman away from the door.

"She had no choice but to identify herself as a law enforcement officer and take immediate action", he said. KTRK reports that as of Monday morning, the passenger had been questioned by authorities who have not yet formally charged her with a crime.

"Everybody was just in shock", he said from the Corpus Christi airport, where passengers had been allowed to leave the plane.

The flight was delayed more than five hours in Corpus Christi, landing about 11:30 a.m. before resuming the route to Houston about 5 p.m. and arriving at Hobby Airport one hour later.

A former ABC13 producer was on the flight and got video of officers removing the disruptive passenger. "If she hadn't acted so quickly, things could have gone very differently".
