Skipper Jimmy Spithill says Oracle Team USA will consider every option to keep its America's Cup defence alive, including replacing him at the helm.

It was Spithill and the team bankrolled by Oracle founder Larry Ellison who in 2013 turned an 8-1 deficit against New Zealand into a 9-8 victory and a successful defence of the oldest trophy in global sport.

New Zealand are one win from the America's Cup title after taking a 6-1 lead over USA. "We've been there before".

Spithill's fightback in San Francisco in 2013 ranks as one of the biggest ever sporting reversals, overturning an 8-1 New Zealand lead to win the "Auld Mug" by 9-8. That was the key thing.

"We worked very, very hard those five days and we sailed probably five times as much as the other guys and did a lot of work on the shore and I'd just like to see the boat go quicker".

"It's what we've been aiming for for three years - to win that final race", Burling told Toyota.

"I think we showed today were a pretty tough bunch".

Having made changes to their boat since the opening weekend of the America's Cup Match, presented by Louis Vuitton, Jimmy Spithill was asked if there might also be changes to personnel on the Oracle Team USA boat ahead of day five, to which he replied, "Anything is on the table".

When Spicer did appear on camera on Tuesday, he said he often stays late at night working to answer reporters questions. From what my White House sources tell me you were never under serious consideration....

But Spithill was heartened by his crew's response to the mistake-strewn day, which included being beaten in both starts and a costly penalty for sailing beyond a boundary.

By the windward gate the lead was six-seconds and the Kiwis followed ORACLE TEAM USA through the gate before tacking early to the right side of the race course.

The arch-rivals are due to resume battle on Bermuda's Great Sound on Sunday, with another two races scheduled. "Nothing changes for us".

He closed the gap and crossed just ahead of the Kiwis on the third leg.

Burling could become the youngest helmsman to win sailing's greatest prize.

Their "cyclors", including an Olympic cycling medalist, have kept their heads down throughout the contest, pedaling furiously to provide enough oil in the system to allow the boat to perform nearly balletic pirouette maneuvers on the water.

HAMILTON, Bermuda New Zealand lifted the America's Cup on Monday, nearly white-washing the USA holders with a revolutionary boat and a new superstar sailor avenging a humbling defeat four years ago.
