Cars 3 weekend total is an estimated $53.5 million, according, to Box Office Mojo.

The G-rated "Cars 3" got an "A" CinemaScore and generally positive reviews, but it will have to contend with "Despicable Me 3" which opens in two weeks. Cars 3 ranks as the lowest opening in the franchise and well below the $60 million that Disney had forecast earlier last week. "Rough Night", $8.1 million 8. The series pales in comparison to some of Pixar's biggest smashes, including last year's "Finding Dory" which grossed more than $1 billion worldwide. Wonder Woman now also boasts the fourth-highest grossing third weekend of any superhero movie, with only Avengers, Spider-Man, and The Dark Knight performing better in the third week of their respective runs.

Interest in Cars 3 may soon change thanks to positive feedback the animated movie has been receiving from both critics and audiences.

NASA telescope finds 10 more planets that could have life
Perez also said that means that "we are probably not alone" because four years of data show how common Earth-like planets can be. The telescope works by detecting the tiny drop in a star's brightness that occurs when a planet crosses or transits past it.

Rounding out the top five was the thriller "47 Meters Down", starring Mandy Moore and Claire Holt, earning an estimated $11.5 million in its opening weekend.

Wonder Woman is also now outpacing both Man of Steel and Suicide Squad, and in worldwide markets is also outpacing The Wolverine, Thor and Iron Man. It's the first feature released by Byron Allen's Entertainment Studios, which acquired movie-distribution company Freestyle Releasing in 2015. The Tupac biopic beat expectations with $27.1 million in ticket sales for Demetrius Shipp, Jr.'s portrayal of the legendary rapper's rise, prison sentence and shooting death. Pinkett-Smith slammed the movie as "deeply hurtful".

Meanwhile, Rough Night - starring Scarlett Johansson, Ilana Glazer, Kate McKinnon, and Zoe Kravitz - brought in $8.1 million in its first weekend. "The Mummy", $13.9 million ($56.5 million total) 5. Lucia Aniello directed the film.
