Las Vegas woman wins famous hot dog eating contest

Stonie came third this year by eating 48 dogs. In the end, Chestnut took down Stonie by 17 hot dogs.

Now that Chestnut reclaimed the crown in 2016 he is ready to make it back-to-back wins once again and claim his 10th overall win at Coney Island.

How did the hot dog eating contest get started?

Hometown hero Joey "Jaws" Chestnut battled with San Jose native Matt "Megatoad" Stonie at the top of the preeminent competitive-eating event in Coney Island on Tuesday, as the world's No. 1 and No. 2 ranked eaters, according to Major League Eating.

Watching Chestnut eat more than 60 hot dogs to win the Mustard Belt on America's birthday has become just as much of a holiday tradition as fireworks over the past decade. And nowhere is that glorious American past time of 0ver-eating processed meats on display than at the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest.

He ended up scarfing down a record 70 dogs in 10 minutes. The champions of both the men's and women's division will take home $10,000.

In the women's competition, Mikie Sudo, 31 and weighing 126 pounds, won her fourth title in a row by eating 41 hot dogs and buns.

Michelle Lesco came in second place with 32.5 hot dogs. The nine-time defending champ, Chestnut, will be back to defend his title. She beat the 98 pounder "The Black Widow" Sonya Thomas. Sudo powered through 38 1/2 hot dogs and buns to beat Thomas previous year. Chestnut downed 70 franks and buns in 10 minutes a year ago, topping his own Coney Island record.

Now, more than 35,000 people witness the eating event live and even more watch as it is televised on ESPN as well.
