Josh Onomah has joined Aston Villa on a season-long loan deal from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.

Onomah has made 32 appearances for Spurs since making his debut in the FA Cup against Burnley in January 2015 and scored once.

Pochettino was initially hesitant to allow Onomah at the centre of the field last season and this loan move to Villa may allow the manager to gauge the players abilities as he will likely be playing for the Villains on a regular basis.

The 20-year-old Londoner has often been forced to play out wide for Tottenham, but showed his potential in the centre of midfield this summer with England's under-20s.

Grealish could be out until the New Year with a freak kidney injury he picked up in pre-season, Bruce revealed earlier this week.

Coach Mauricio Pochettino has previously been unwilling to send Onomah out on loan despite interest from several Championship clubs last season and pleas from the 20-year-old, who said last month: "I have wanted to [go on loan], but I trust the gaffer".

The Enfield-born midfielder may have designs on breaking into Pochettino's starting line-up in the future but is now exclusively focusing on helping Aston Villa earn promotion back to England's top-flight.

'This is a huge football club and I want to really make my mark here and prove to be a player the manager can rely on. "I know that promotion is the aim and I am here to help us achieve that", he told the club website.
