The U.S. Geological Survey reports a 4.4 magnitude quake has struck near Edmond, Oklahoma, a suburb to the north of Oklahoma City. They later downgraded the magnitude to 4.2. Edmond officials said two electric substations were knocked out, darkening the northeastern part of the city and leaving about 1,900 customers without power.

Power was restored about an hour later.

The fourth quake was reported 3:45 p.m. Wednesday and was a 3.3 magnitude.

This left around 1900 customers in the dark until crews could fix the stations and restore power.

At least seven earthquakes have struck the Oklahoma City area in the last three days, including one that knocked out electrical service to nearby residents and shook areas of Kansas.

In a statement Thursday, the Oklahoma Corporation Commission (OCC) said its Induced Seismicity Department was working with the Oklahoma Geological Survey (OGC) to investigate natural disaster activity near Edmond.

Seahawks, Kam Chancellor agree to 3-year extension
The signing of Chancellor helps Seattle ensure that the "Legion of Boom" will remain in place for years to come. The three-year length of the extension makes sense given Chancellor's age and his recent injury history.

A growing body of research has linked Oklahoma's alarming spate of "induced" or "man-made" earthquakes to the injection of wastewater from oil and gas production into disposal wells.

The wells lie within a 10-mile radius of the seismic activity and target the sponge-like Arbuckle formation.

"The earthquakes have been clustered close together in an area where there is a known fault", the OCC said. The first was a 3.0-magnitude about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. "There are no Arbuckle disposal wells at or very close to the location".

The agency reported six quakes in the region over the past 24-hours.

The Edmond Police Department's Twitter account also noted the loss of electricity, stating that officers are "assessing the situation" and will provide updates throughout the night.
