Today, following the unveiling of the Galaxy Note 8, the President of Samsung's Mobile Division, DJ Koh, confirmed to CNBC that Samsung is indeed making a smart speaker.

Samsung's Galaxy S8 (review) was one of the better releases this year, but its Bixby assistant was left in a very unfinished state, despite the inclusion of a dedicated button for the service.

Compared to competing AI applications, such as Google Assistant and Apple's Siri, Bixby is deeply integrated into supporting Samsung devices, allowing it to manage any task that could also be carried out by touch or text, the company said. This is unique to Bixby and no other digital assistant in the market has this switching feature.

Bixby allows you to further personalize and control your phone through the use of Quick Commands which allow you to create a custom voice command to perform multiple actions.

North Korea warns of 'merciless strike' ahead of US-South Korea drills
The North Korean government newspaper also promised that the pariah state can at anytime target the US with a "merciless strike". Pyongyang view the joint military drills as a rehearsal for a northern invasion.

Aside from Samsung apps and system settings, Bixby is also compatible with the likes of WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, Messenger, Twitter, Instagram, Uber and Google Play Music.

Last month, details emerged of a smart speaker in development by Samsung, codenamed "Vega".

To take advantage of Bixby Voice, you'll want to make sure that all the Bixby-related apps/services are updated. "As I mentioned I wanted to provide a fruitful user experience at home with Samsung devices, and I want to be moving quite heavily on it", Koh said. It will be interesting to see how consumers react to Samsung's iteration of smart speakers.
