N Korea's Kim tours cosmetics plant with wife, sister

The North Korean leader's visit was broadcast on state media a day after US Defence Secretary James Mattis said the US would "never accept" a nuclear-armed North Korea.

Kim Jong-un has made a rare public appearance with his wife, touring a cosmetics factory which he thinks will help make North Korean women "more beautiful".

Ms Kim meanwhile can not be identified in the photographs, but the report by state news agency KCNA mentioned she was present along with other top officials.

Mr Kim's visit comes amid rising tension in the Korean peninsula over a series of North Korean missile and nuclear tests and escalating rhetoric between Mr Kim and US President Donald Trump - who is due to visit South Korea's capital Seoul in about a week's time.

Over the years many countries have stopped importing luxury goods into North Korea as a result of sanctions.

Apart from attempting to become a nuclear powerhouse, North Korea announced Monday its five-year space plan too.

Mainstream daily JoongAng Ilbo reported yesterday that the police have arrested two North Korean agents allegedly tasked with tracking down Mr Kim Han Sol, 22, who has been in hiding since his father, Mr Kim Jong Nam, was murdered in Malaysia in February.
