The state of Montana has been given another year before it has to begin complying with the REAL ID Act.

Now the state - along with OR and Idaho - has an extension through October 10, 2018, according to REAL ID website.

New Jersey has gotten another extension to bring its driver's licenses up to federal standards.

While you can still change your license to a REAL ID later, on and after October 1, 2020, you must have a REAL ID license or ID, valid US Passport, military ID, or other federally approved identification to board a domestic flight, enter a secure federal building, or visit a military installation.

While far smaller than it was in the '70s, it was still interesting since it hadn't been around for over four decades. Antarctica is still in the clutches of winter, and the Weddell Sea is usually still covered in sea ice.

PennDOT anticipates that REAL ID-compliant driver's licenses will be available at the customer's option in March 2019. The Motor Vehicles Division will seek another extension to give it more time to reach full compliance. Just last week federal officials announced Minnesotans had until January 22 to obtain the more advanced identification cards, usually driver's licenses.

REAL ID is a mandate on federal agencies, restricting the circumstances under which they may accept state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards for official purposes. "South Carolinians can rest assured knowing their state-issued licenses and IDs are still accepted for federal activities that will eventually require a REAL ID".

Senator Jon Tester, Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee and member of the Senate Homeland Security Committee: "I will continue to hold the Department of Homeland Security accountable to their promise to work with Montana to find a common-sense solution that doesn't inhibit Montana families' travel plans and protects our civil liberties".

Oklahoma has received an extension for implementing Real ID compliant identification. Minnesota's passage of a law complying with the federal standards earlier this year allowed Homeland Security to issue the extension. Once the state is certified compliant, there will be no need for additional extension requests.
