This is the first competitive match between Liverpool and Maribor, who have a poor record in both the Champions League, and against English opposition.

This will be the first competitive encounter between Maribor and Liverpool. Defensively, Jurgen Klopp's side have been mistake-prone and have gifted their opponents several goals this season. After a Dejan Lovren mistake led to an early Sevilla lead, Liverpool scored twice to take a halftime lead. It was two before the quarter-hour, a sweeping move from Liverpool presenting James Milner with a chance to pick out Coutinho's late run into the box and the Brazilian volleyed home.

Maribor were now set for damage limitation, hoping to keep the score to a respectable margin as it was Liverpool showing all the attacking impetus, Mo Salah looking especially threatening for the Reds, testing Handanovic from distance with a dipping shot from the edge of the area.

Roberto Firmino handed them the ideal start inside four minutes on Slovenian soil. The side is in second place with 28 points through 12 games.

Firmino added a second goal before Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - his first for Liverpool - and Trent Alexander-Arnold completed the rout for Maribor's heaviest loss in the competition.

Liverpool eased the pressure on Jurgen Klopp as Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah inspired a 7-0 thrashing of Maribor in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Klopp was all smiles on the touchline and there was still time for teenage defender Alexander-Arnold to net in stoppage-time with a deflected long-range effort. Liverpool won their first three points of the group and with that, sit top of Group E as Maribor visit Anfield in the return fixture in a fortnight's time.
