Meanwhile, according to Kotaku on yesterday's launch, "In June, when Nintendo announced the Super Nintendo Classic, the company promised that it would manufacture more consoles than it did for last year's NES Classic...."

The NES Classic Edition was nearly impossible to find in stores a year ago. Best Buy, Target, Walmart, GameStop, Toys R Us, ThinkGeek (yes, they have actual stores) and even B&H Photo Video in NYC will all have the SNES Classic in stock on Friday.

But in this version, Nintendo includes 20 classic games plus one that was never released, Star Fox 2, all built right in. While not the company's biggest-selling console of all time, it was the victor of that generation of gaming consoles, outselling the Sega Genesis by nearly 20 million units thanks to stronger graphics and a lineup of games that included several featuring Mario and Donkey Kong.

The electronics retail giant will have limited quantities of the Super NES Classic systems available on September 29. On the bright side, that's still plenty of time for it to arrive if you intend to make the SNES Classic a holiday gift.

There are a few Walmart stores that are reported in inventory tracking services (see below) to have SNES Classic in stock.

The $80 system fits in the palm of your hand and comes with two controllers, a power cable, and an HDMI cable to hook into a TV.

GameStop: In an email earlier this week, a GameStop representative told us that their stores will have "additional consoles for in-store, walk-in purchases".
