Tropical Depression 16 had maximum sustained winds of 35 miles per hour Wednesday and was located over the southwestern Caribbean Sea, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

Nate is moving over Nicaragua and Honduras today before heading towards Mexico and across the Gulf of Mexico to the USA.

The National Hurricane Center said early Wednesday that showers and thunderstorms associated with the broad area of low pressure located over the southwestern Caribbean Sea continue to show signs of organization.

Forecasters said the depression could strengthen to a tropical storm before it moves inland over northeastern Nicaragua Thursday.

The forecast cone below by the National Hurricane Center shows the possibility of it hitting Sunday anywhere between Louisiana and Florida.

NK official handling USA affairs begins Russian Federation visit
Russian Federation has been wary of USA flights of strategic bombers over the peninsula, Tass news agency reported. Moscow says Russian and North Korean diplomats will meet in Moscow on September 29 to discuss the Korean crisis.

However, there is a large spread among the computer models as to where Hurricane Nate will make landfall along the U.S. Gulf Coast between Texas and the Florida panhandle.

The storm is forecast to dump heavy rains on parts of Central America before strengthening into a Hurricane Lee. Our hurricane season typically ends by mid-October as the strong upper level winds that push down cold fronts also shove storms away from Texas.

As of 10 p.m. Wednesday, the storm was moving northwest into the Gulf of Mexico.

The storm could bring up to 20 inches of rain in Nicaragua Thursday, while forecasts predicted it would pass over the Yucatan Peninsula near Cancun on Friday. At this point, landfall is expected somewhere along the Florida Gulf Coast. Environmental conditions look favorable for development over the next few days and it will likely develop into a tropical depression within that time.
