According to King, Jones' demands over Goodell's contract have not gone over well with the competition committee.

ESPN reported on Sunday that Goodell had asked for a salary of $49.5 million a year, the use of a private jet for life and lifetime health insurance for his family.

Blank is the head of the NFL's Compensation Committee, and is one of the key players in Goodell's negotiations.

The commissioner now is embattled with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who has threatened to sue the National Football League if negotiations regarding Goodell's contract extension are finalized without approval from all National Football League team owners.

Jones had served as a non-voting, ad-hoc member of the negotiating committee until he was removed at the weekend by Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, who heads the negotiating committee.

All 32 owners voted in May to extend Goodell's contract and authorized the compensation committee to work out the details. It's absolutely true that multiple owners have become upset with the manner in which Jerry Jones has handled himself in recent months.

The negotiations with Goodell has become controversial with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reportedly threatened to sue if the league goes forward with the deal.

The NFL's Compensation Committee - which includes Giants co-owner John Mara - will hold a conference call today to "discuss and further push ahead the proposed extension" for Goodell, per the WorldWide Leader. We're not against Roger (Goodell), we just don't know if this is the time to be talking about major contract extensions when the league certainly has several challenges in terms of where we are as a league. The league and Goodell have been working on a five-year deal to kick in when his current deal expires in 2019.

Jones's issue with Goodell ostensibly began when the Commissioner suspended Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott for six games back in August after the former Ohio State star was accused of domestic violence by his former girlfriend, Tiffany Thompson.

"It's about concussions, Jones vs. Goodell, [Ezekiel Elliott's suspension], the anthem".

"I really fervently disagree that we shouldn't have him on the playing field", Jones said.
