Northern California Shooting Leaves 5 Dead, Including Attacker

Jeanine Quist, an administrative assistant with the Corning Union Elementary School District, says no one was killed at the school but a "number" of students were shot and wounded. "I don't know any information at this time about any of the victims at the school".

Assistant Sheriff for Tehama County Phil Johnston told KCRA shots were fired around 8 a.m. Brian Flint told the Record Searchlight newspaper in the city of Redding Tuesday that his neighbor, whom he knows only as Kevin, also stole his truck.

"It's a very sad day for us in Tehama County", said the deputy, who was visibly shaken by events. Officers recovered a semi-automatic rifle and two handguns, which they believe were used by the shooter. According to police, it appears that the shooter was randomly picking targets.

At least one student was wounded at the school.

"I am told the suspected shooter is deceased from law enforcement bullets", the deputy said at the scene.

More than 100 law enforcement officers were on scene.

Two hospitals said they were treating a seven gunshot victims, including at least three children.

He said there were at least five crime scenes related to the incident.

Fox 5 in San Diego reports the shooting started at a home and moved to the elementary school.

"The insane thing is the neighbor has been shooting a lot of bullets lately - hundreds of rounds, large magazines", Flint said. "This guy has been insane, and he's been threatening us and everything".

A person with the username Javier Figueroa tweeted that the shooting had taken place at his brother's school.

California Governor Jerry Brown said in a statement he and his wife were "saddened to hear about today's violence in Tehama County, which shockingly involved schoolchildren".
