Former Tottenham midfielder and manager Tim Sherwood says that his former club are "on the brink" of winning a trophy.

It's the first match back after the worldwide break for most of the Arsenal players but Arsebe Wenger was asked why Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud were sent back early from the France squad.

Tottenham is heading into a north London derby on Saturday Nov. 18, against Arsenal as a clear favorite for the first time in decades.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said on Thursday that his side needs to maintain their strength at home in order to make up ground on the teams above them in the Premier League.

The last time Arsenal defeated Spurs in the league was on March 16, 2014, when Tomas Rosicky's second-minute strike - a goal manager Arsene Wenger described afterward as one that "will go in my collection of great goals" - held up as the victor in a 1-0 victory at White Hart Lane.

"I think Tottenham are a good side but we have the quality to win this game and that's what we want to show". That might not happen this season. Two years ago when we finished above them we were disappointed because we didn't win the title. We must respect them.

The Tottenham defender has admitted that he wants to end that drought this season, and has stated that his team will be doing everything in their power to get all three points on Saturday afternoon.

Having sat out England's friendlies against Brazil and France, Tottenham's Harry Kane is expected to start for the visitors, Wenger acknowledging he has made plans to combat the star centre-forward. Missing the Manchester United game to injury, Kane played 77 minutes against Crystal Palace but was not involved in the goal.

Arsenal could see Shkodran Mustafi and Danny Welbeck both return, which would be a real boost, and Alexandre Lacazette should be recalled to the first XI.
