In a touching post about his Star Wars co-star, Mark Hamil shared a group of photos featuring himself and Fisher, topped off with the caption "No one's ever really gone...#AlwaysWithUs #CarrieOnForever".

The loss of Fisher immediately presented a quandary for Disney and Lucasfilm, who had Fisher cast in all three films in the new Star Wars trilogy.

Fisher was 60 years old when she died last December, just a few days after she was rushed to the hospital after suffering cardiac arrest on a transatlantic flight.

Carrie had completed scenes for the film before she died and during the credits, a message reads: "In loving memory of our princess, Carrie Fisher". The two played the characters of twins Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa.

Written and directed by Rian Johnson, The Last Jedi also stars Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Oscar Isaac as Poe, Kelly Marie Tran as Rose, Gwendoline Christie as Phasma, Domhnall Gleeson as Hux and Andy Serkis as Snoke. However, Hamill retracted these claims, with a tweet that called Star Wars: The Last Jedi "all-time GREAT", while regretting his public criticisms of the movie. "YES! Wow, good eyes!" he wrote in response to a tweeter who asked, "@rianjohnson we @FanthaTracks want to know if you can confirm this cute little creature is #spacegary in #TheLastJedi". Of course "fans" picked up on that and decided he hated the film, despite the fact that in every interview he did he also said that he came to terms with that direction and realized it was a fantastic way to go. "All I wanted was to make a good movie. Now, having said that, I have gotten it off my chest, and my job now is to take what you've created and do my best to realize your vision".
