New York Giants place S Landon Collins on season-ending injured reserve

Earlier in the week, safety Landon Collins told ESPN Radio that Apple is considered a locker-room "cancer", and later told ESPN's Josina Anderson that the cornerback had "checked out" on the team. "Just want him to know I'm always there for him". It has been a hard second season in the National Football League for Apple, who was the Giants first-round pick a year ago.

National Football League players usually stand behind their teammates. Collins said last week during his weekly radio spot that Apple needed to grow up. "That would be the only person I would change out of our secondary".

With one off-color comment and an reported outburst at practice, Eli Apple likely ended his Giants career. Besides the other two guys, DRC (Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie) and Jackrabbit (former North Alabama standout Janoris Jenkins), I love those two guys. That may not seem overly odd outside of the fact that Apple was a first round pick in 2016 and, after a lot of on-field team as a rookie, he has disappeared amid disciplinary measures and general benching. Apple denied ever talking to Collins.

He found himself benched again in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals. Those remarks came on the heels of one report that Apple threatened to walk out on the team after his play was criticized and another that the 2016 first-round pick is "disliked" within the organization.

The 26-year-old will wear squad number 4 on arrival at Anfield. Former Liverpool player Collymore is staggered at the fee.

Apple was inactive for four consecutive games, with the reasons ranging from personal reasons, injury (hip and back) and presumed disciplinary action stemming from behavior issues.

NY went to the playoffs last season, but 2017 has been a nightmare for the Giants.

When approached at his locker after the game and asked why he only played 7 snaps (all on special teams), Apple said: "It was a coach's decision".
