A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect until 1pm Wednesday for Northern Erie, Niagara, Orleans and Genesee Counties.

Bowers said the snow should taper off Wednesday night.

"Total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches are possible".

The weather service is predicting locally heavy lake effect snow of up to 6 inches, depending on location, resulting in hard travel conditions. A heavy band of lake effect snow is expected to move inland from Lake Ontario overnight bringing the potential of snowfall rates up to 2 inches/hour.

Will you get the flu shot?
"The vaccine doesn't work as well for H3N2 as we would like, but does work for some and it may provide partial protection". But those strains aren't exact matches to the two strains that are now circulating through the population.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy with snow showers.

The low will continue to push east Thursday, but then lake-effect snow will kick back in.

Olean will see "lighter snow through early afternoon associated with this first storm system", he said, followed by a second storm the following day. Areas affected will be generally south of Buffalo, as well as off the southern shore of Lake Ontario.

Metro Detroit is expecting another, even bigger blast of snow - set to strike tomorrow. The bands will slowly shift to the east, moving through the South Bend metro area. and our model has most of the snow this evening and overnight affecting more of the eastern half of Michiana (around U.S. 31 and eastward with the best chance for snow). The watch began at midnight Monday. Afternoon temperatures will only rebound to the mid 40s despite plenty of sunshine.
