Bears hire Mark Helfrich as offensive coordinator

Many people around the league felt that Ballard would target a coach on Andy Reid's coaching staff in Kansas City when searching for a head coach to succeed the fired Chuck Pagano.

According a number of reports, the Bears have hired Mark Helfrich to serve as Nagy's first offensive coordinator as a head coach in the NFL.

Helfrich spent four years as OR head coach, with the Ducks going 37-16 during that span.

Mark Helfrich was Chip Kelly's offensive coordinator for four seasons at OR before taking over as the Ducks' head coach when Kelly went to the NFL.

Perhaps the biggest appeal of the Colts' job is having Andrew Luck, one of the few franchise quarterbacks in the NFL. All of Helfrich's previous coaching experience, beginning in 1996, has been at the college level. I really think Helfrich will thrive in managing a smaller group of players rather than an entire locker room, as there were obvious problems in his last season at Oregon. He has seen the college game evolve for many years as a coach and, last season, as a television analyst.

Suspects in death of 4-year-old MI girl captured in Georgia
Police are searching for the parents of a 4-year-old Sumpter Township girl who died Monday after being found with severe burns. Diaz and Fields are believed to be traveling in a black 2002 Chevy Cavalier with MI tag number DTR1854, police officials said .

OR struggled to a 4-8 mark in 2016, although it still ranked 27th in the nation in scoring.

In Helfrich, the Bears will have filled two of their three coordinator positions, also reportedly tabbing Chris Tabor as their special teams coordinator Wednesday.

ESPN first reported Helfrich's hiring Thursday morning. But the offense was still formidable, resulting in quarterback Marcus Mariota winning the 2014 Heisman Trophy.

Mark Helfrich is a smart guy.

Presumably, Helfrich's responsibility will largely be developing quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who will go into his second season as the Bears' starter. He worked under Koetter at Boise State in 1998 and then followed him to Arizona State.
