Bullitt is back with special edition Mustang

Ford will mark the 50 anniversary of the iconic Bullitt movie by reintroducing a special edition 2019 Mustang Bullitt model later this summer. Unlike previous Bullitt editions, Ford has bumped the GT's engine power to 475 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. Furthermore, the Ford Mustang Bullitt features only two color options, namely Shadow Black and Dark Highland Green.

This new Bullitt is, as Steve McQueen was, effortlessly cool. For a long time it was thought the original from the movie was lost forever, but it's now been found and has taken its rightful place alongside a new 2019 Bullitt Mustang Ford that has just unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Its expected to sell for a few thousand dollars more than the Mustang GT's $43,990. The other vehicle, which was used in many chase scenes, went to a salvage yard. A special steering wheel with the Bullitt logo is standard. MagneRide incorporates a semi-active suspension system and the Recaro black leather-trimmed seats are also optional. The vehicle features a six-speed manual with a white cue-ball shifter as its only transmission. Ford has forever produced special edition Mustangs, but the "Bullitt" just revealed at the 2018 Detroit auto show has some special appeal since it comes 50 years after the film Bullitt starring Steve McQueen was released - a film that to this day remains unrivalled for vehicle chase scenes. First we got the 2019 Ranger, and now the 2019 Bullitt Mustang has arrived ahead of NAIAS 2018.

Sean Kiernan inherited the vehicle from his father, who'd owned it since 1974; it's exactly as it was when filming wrapped, right down to the studio gate pass sticker inside the windshield.

Freeze Tonight with Rain Changing to Snow
A narrow swath of heavy snow with up to 8 inches is possible roughly from around Albert Lea to Ladysmith and Eau Claire. Mostly cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a steady temperature around 24.

The new Bullitt edition uses a 5.0 GT as its basis, with Mustang GT Premium and Performance Package bits strapped on. "It just kind happened with life".

To unveil the auto to the world's media in Detroit, Ford helpfully hired Steve McQueen's granddaughter Molly, who starred in a homage to the 1968 original, though this time she's racing a Dodge Charger for the final parking space.

Only three options packages are offered, starting with a Bullitt Electronics Package, which has navigation, driver memory seats and mirrors, an upgraded sound system, and a blind-spot information system with cross-traffic alert.
