Cousins had to be helped off the floor with a left Achilles tendon injury late in the fourth quarter of the Pelicans' 115-113 home victory against the Houston Rockets on Friday.

It's a devastating blow, considering Cousins was in the midst of a career-best season - he recently had a triple-double with 44 points and 24 rebounds.

"I feel frightful for him", added Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry, via ESPN. Gordon, who joined the Rockets in free agency before last season, launched a few of his 3-pointers from the French Quarter.

New Orleans (27-21) is now sixth in the Western Conference standings.

As for the Pelicans, they'll be hard-pressed to deal for help replacing Cousins at the deadline due to their cap situation.

As a result, playoff projection systems considered New Orleans a heavy favorite to return to the postseason for the first time since 2015.

Move Over NFL, the XFL Is Back!
The top players in college football went to the NFL , which would continue to be the biggest hurdle for a young league to cross. During the press call Thursday, McMahon did not directly address whether XFL players would be required to stand for the anthem.

There were just 8.1 seconds left Friday night. As is having players who can take over the role of scoring leader (Cousins), defensive anchor (Davis) and crash the glass. This means he needs surgery and is done for the season, obviously, and could miss the start of the next one depending upon recovery.

Cousins finishes the season averaging a double-double with 25.4 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game.

Chris Paul scored 38 points before fouling out in the final seconds and almost led Houston back from a 21-point, third-quarter deficit. As much as we can, we have to move forward and try to figure some things out. They'd be able to thoroughly dominate even the Golden State Warriors in the paint thanks to their length, versatility, athleticism and two-way ability.

Demps is working on the final year of his contract, in his eighth season, and didn't receive a public vote of confidence from the team's ownership this summer.

Boogie Cousins joined Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans just under a year ago in a blockbuster trade that gave the Sacramento Kings Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans and Langston Galloway as well as a couple draft picks. Right now, the center will have to rehab and get back to form from the injury.

After just being announced as an starter for the 2018 National Basketball Association ll-Star game, bad news strikes where it always hurts most: the injury front.
