Hollis' resignation came days after Michigan State president Lou Anna K. Simon announced her departure from the university.

"As tragedies are politicized, blame is inevitable", she said in statement. "As president, it is only natural that I am the focus of this anger".

On Tuesday, the NCAA announced that they sent a letter of inquiry to Michigan State about potential rules violations that may have occurred surrounding Nassar. That's what Judge Rosemarie Aquilina said after sentencing Larry Nassar, the former Olympic gymnastics doctor, to 40 to 175 years in prison for sexually assaulting over 150 young female athletes, including Olympic medalists McKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman and Simone Biles. The school says it has immunity under MI law and that the majority of victims were not MSU students at the time of the alleged assaults.

The USA Gymnastics organization also announced the resignation of three top board members after the United States Olympic Committee demanded change from the top down. And in 2003, before he was athletic director, he helped organize a nationally broadcast game between Kentucky and Michigan State at Ford Field.

"I'm not running away from anything, I'm running towards something", Hollis said, noting that he planned to cooperate with investigations by the Michigan Attorney General's Office and NCAA.

Hollis, along with men's basketball coach Tom Izzo and women's basketball coach Suzy Merchant received contract extensions from the university's Board of Trustees in June 2017.

The athletic director, who graduated from MSU in 1985, said January 31 will be his last day. Sandusky's arrest a decade later blew up into a scandal that brought down legendary football coach Joe Paterno. Along the 2-mile route they chanted, "Hey, ho, the board's gotta go" and "Me too, MSU!" How could they not at least attempt to do something after Penn State, right?

"We have to say that time is up".

"This was not an easy decision for my family, and you should not jump to any conclusions based on our decision - listen to facts", Hollis said.

Stacey Derhammer says she wants the university to move forward and heal. However, according to the lawsuit that Dantzscher filed back in 2016, the USA Gymnastic Organization knew about the abuse but "negligently suppressed, concealed or failed to disclose knowledge that Nassar had engaged in sexual conduct with team members". "Not because administrators in Indianapolis decide on ad hoc basis that they apply". "It astounds me that anyone in a position of athletic administration at Michigan State that would have anything whatsoever to do with working with the athletes, it would astound me if they felt secure".

The students are demanding more change from the university.

The Big 12 Conference said it would withhold millions of dollars in revenue from Baylor until an outside review determined the university and athletic department were complying with Title IX guidelines and other regulations. "And, they were dealing with their football program".
