It is one of a dwindling number of North Korean cash sources not specifically targeted by global sanctions. "If he believes South Korea has gone too far on inter-Korean cooperation and done little on denuclearization, he could. punish the South".

On Jan. 26, a senior official from the Unification Ministry who had returned from a visit to North Korea from Jan. 23 to 25 with the South Korean advance team met with reporters.

The regime of North Korea's Kim Jong-un remains a danger to the world, Defense Secretary James N. Mattis said yesterday in Honolulu, while emphasizing diplomatic efforts to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue.

North and South Korea have announced plans to field a unified women's hockey team for the Games.

The U.S. -South Korean alliance is "ironclad and irreplaceable", Mattis said.

North Korea strongly condemned the United States Saturday for passing its own sanctions against the North, calling the sanctions a clear and reckless violation of its sovereignty, Yonhap reported.

The meeting between Mattis and South Korean Minister of National Defense Song Young-moo was scheduled as part of regular consultations between the two nations, but preparation for the February 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongCheng, South Korea was to be a major point of discussion.

Nor were the images the first to make it into the public eye with USA intelligence providing similar photographs to a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing in September previous year.

Mattis has repeatedly insisted that USA efforts to disarm North Korean leader Kim Jong Un are "diplomatically led", while also saying that he has developed military options for any potential war.

Recent weeks have seen Trump express openness toward direct talks with the DPRK and optimism about the warming relations between the two Koreas, as the two Koreas have been engaged in an abundance of projects to promote the Winter Olympics in recent weeks.
