It is one of a dwindling number of North Korean cash sources not specifically targeted by global sanctions. "If he believes South Korea has gone too far on inter-Korean cooperation and done little on denuclearization, he could. punish the South".

On Jan. 26, a senior official from the Unification Ministry who had returned from a visit to North Korea from Jan. 23 to 25 with the South Korean advance team met with reporters.

Mattis has repeatedly insisted that USA efforts to disarm North Korean leader Kim Jong Un are "diplomatically led", while also saying that he has developed military options for any potential war.

Recent weeks have seen Trump express openness toward direct talks with the DPRK and optimism about the warming relations between the two Koreas, as the two Koreas have been engaged in an abundance of projects to promote the Winter Olympics in recent weeks.
