Auto Expo 2018: Mahindra unveils six new electrical idea autos, fashions

The 2018 Auto Expo the Motor Show kicked off with Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham, Sonakshi Sinha and Akshay Kumar among others in attendance.

Swedish electric auto maker Uniti today announced its tie-up with India's Bird Group at the expo here to launch a 5 -seater electric vehicle priced at Rs 7,14,000 (ex-showroom) by 2020. Tata says the Racemo will do 0-100 kmph in under 6 seconds.

Tata Motors, which had over half a dozen electric vehicles on display but now only sells them to government and commercial clients, echoed his sentiment. However, considering the auto has been showcased again, we can be hopeful that the project is not dead yet. These new models are scheduled to be launched in India in FY 2018-19. The company's products on display in the EV segment includes UDO, a concept two-seater electric mobility pod; ATOM, a last mile urban mobility concept vehicle and a lithium ion battery-powered three-wheeler, Treo along with e-KUV100, an electric version of its compact vehicle KUV100.

Hinduja flagship firm Ashok Leyland unveiled its electric bus Circuit-S which is powered by its partner SUN Mobility's swappable smart battery. Also, there was an electric version of its first race vehicle RaceMo, among others.

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), which has also bagged orders for EVs from EESL, will showcase six new electric vehicles, including two futuristic concepts - a global aspirational SUV and a Stinger concept of one of the company's popular SUVs. The most important performance update comes in the form of the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine which boasts a turbocharger like in the Nexon.

The company also showcased a range of technologies to accelerate electrification of powertrains in India, ahead of its planned launch of an electric vehicle in India by 2020.

The company, on Wednesday, also showcased SsangYong Motor's new G4 Rexton, which will be launched in India with an all new brand name. The X-Blade will be available in five colour options- Matte Marvel Blue Metallic, Matte Frozen Silver Metallic, Pearl Spartan Red, Pearl Igneous Black and Matte Marshal Green Metallic.

It will use the Jeep Compass' 2 liter turbocharged diesel engine in 140 Bhp-320 Nm state of tune, and 6 speed manual and 9 speed automatic gearboxes. Power and torque output figures aren't known at the moment. Its price in India starts from Rs 4.9 lakh and it will be launched in India in 2020. The Auto Expo 2018 will see global automakers locking horns to launch and showcase their best products to the world.
