Travel warning as snow and ice forecast for north Wales

A wind warning is in place for Leinster, Munster and Co Galway until 8pm on Saturday.

Separately, Met Éireann has issued a national snow-ice warning which will come into effect at midnight.

After a mild, wet and blustery day, Saturday will turn cold tonight with a mixture of clear spells and scattered sleet, snow and hail showers developing.

"This will result in falling temperatures and icy patches are likely to develop on some untreated surfaces, especially where any wintry showers lead to wash off of previous treatment".

Tomorrow will be a colder and brighter day for many with spells of sunshine.

"A covering of snow as we begin Sunday across the higher grounds of the north of England and central and southern Scotland".

A snow and ice warning for all of Ireland is in place until midnight on Sunday as temperatures are expected to fall to -3 degrees. Frost and icy patches will develop also.

However, the outlook for the weekend is for more icy conditions with wintry showers, ice and frost expected.

Showers and blustery weather is forecast for the north-west, where the highest temperatures us expected to be around 5C, with the south-west's at about 7C.

Half term for many parents and children will be a washout as Britain is set to be battered by heavy rain and snow for most of next week.

Public Health England forecasters have extended a cold weather health alert until Tuesday and today swathes of the country were hit by wind and even some snow.
