It turned out that Beatty and Dunaway had been given an envelope containing the name of "La La Land" star Emma Stone, the victor for Best Actress.

Thankfully, all went well with the big reveal - although Warren and Faye did have fun with it, with Warren opening the envelope slowly before announcing The Shape Of Water had won the award over the awards season favourite Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Mexican director Guillermo del Toro stands on stage with his cast and crew after he won the Oscar for Best Film for "The Shape of Water" during the 90th Annual Academy Awards show on March 4, 2018 in Hollywood, California. "I wasn't trying to be amusing", Beatty clarified on stage at the time, after host Jimmy Kimmel had joked "Warren, what did you do?"

Before the best picture announcement, Jimmy said: 'We're in the home stretch.

With new practices in place, it was hard for the Oscars to repeat last year?s best picture snafu - when "La La Land" was incorrectly announced as the victor.

So this year the Academy took some not-so-minor and obviously very important steps to make sure such a fiasco didn't happen again.

La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz came forward after some commotion to tell everyone, "There's a mistake". When presenting the award for Best Picture in 2017, they announced that the winner was La La Land, when the actual victor was Moonlight. I'm afraid they read the wrong thing.

Last year's PwC accountants, Brian Cullinan and Martha Ruiz, were replaced by Rick Rosas and Kimberly Bourdon.

After correctly being presented the award a year ago, Moonlight's producer Dede Gardner said: "I'm still not sure this is real". Here's hoping they all have the right cards.

Moonlight was the first LGBT themed film to win the best picture Oscar.
