Wade continued to show that support Wednesday by stopping by the high school to visit with students, faculty and staff on their first full day of school since 14 students and three adults were killed in the shooting. When he learned that Joaquin Oliver, one of 17 people killed in the shooting, was buried in a Wade Heat jersey, the National Basketball Association star dedicated the rest of the season to the teen. Wednesday marked a return to normalcy at the Parkland, Fla., school, as it was the first full day with regular class schedules since the February 14 mass shooting.

In a speech to several students, Wade said in part, "I just wanted to come and say I'm inspired".

Wade's visit was captured on social media, including in a post by Rosalind Osgood, a Broward County school board member who posted a picture of her and Wade.

After his visit, Wade tweeted about his interactions with students. "As someone out here in the public eye, I'm proud to say I'm from this state".

Wade tweeted about having a conversation with the students about things they have planned for the future.

Gwala, who has competed in two worldwide triathlons, was rushed to the Albert Luthuli Hospital in a serious condition. Gwala thought the men were coming to rob him so he offered them his bike and everything else of value he had.

Wade presented the family with a Vice Jersey and custom-made sneakers following the game.

Debbie Jacobson, a teacher at the school, posted a photo of herself with Wade thanking him for the visit and for what he has done with Oliver's family.

Since the tragedy, Dwyane Wade has written the name of Joaquin Oliver on his shoes before games, in honor of one of the 17 victims who died in the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

"Meeting this man would have meant the world to Joaquin Oliver, one of our fallen 17", Jacobson said. "A real bright spot for our kids!"
